A Framed View
Charles Schwartz
I sat next to a blind man with brush in hand,
he asked me to tell him an apple
as he guessed at red to fill his circle.
yet my words were not enough
to copy reality, as he dabbed
outside his painted ring.
was his apple image true to him?
was my image false?
is an apple truly round and red,
or is it green, yellow, and dead?
must we eat his canvas
to know his apple is a watermelon?
